Terms
These terms cover your use of Mote, a desktop app for macOS, and of the website at getmote.md. By installing or using Mote, you agree to what's below.
Your license
When you buy Mote, you receive a personal, non-transferable license to install and use the app on Macs that you own or control. The app is licensed, not sold. You may not redistribute Mote, resell your license key, or remove any license checks. You keep ownership of your notes — everything you create with Mote is yours.
Price and payment
Mote is a one-time purchase. The current price is listed on the pricing section of this website. Payment is processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record and handles taxes, receipts, and billing. A license key is delivered to the email address you provide at checkout.
Refunds
If Mote isn't working for you, email marcel@getmote.md within 30 days of purchase and we'll refund you. No forms, no justification. This is issued through Lemon Squeezy.
Updates
Your license includes updates for the current major version of Mote. Future major versions may be offered as a paid upgrade. If that ever changes, it will be made clear before you buy.
Acceptable use
Don't use Mote to do things that are illegal where you live, and don't try to reverse-engineer the app for the purpose of circumventing the license system or republishing the software. Everything else is fair game.
Your content
Mote does not upload, read, or transmit the notes you create. They stay on your Mac. You are responsible for your own backups. Consider enabling Time Machine, iCloud Drive on your notes folder, or pointing Mote at a synced Obsidian vault.
Third-party services
Certain Mote features rely on third-party services — payment processing through Lemon Squeezy, updates hosted on GitHub, YouTube metadata fetched from YouTube. Your use of those features is also subject to those providers' own terms. Mote is not responsible for their availability or behavior.
Warranty
Mote is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from data loss.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Mote and its developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the app. Total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated occasionally. When they change, the date at the top of the page will update. Continued use of Mote after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Termination
You can stop using Mote at any time. We may revoke a license if it was obtained fraudulently or if these terms are seriously violated.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the province of Ontario, Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be handled in the courts located there.
