Mote for Mac

YouTube notes

Keep the thought with the moment.

A lecture, a tutorial, an interview: when something is worth remembering, write it down without losing where you were. Mote keeps your notes above the video.

Mote’s YouTube mode with a video and timestamped notes

Write at your own pace.

In YouTube mode, starting to type pauses the video. You can finish a thought instead of racing the next sentence. The floating note panel stays available while you watch, keeping the source material and your own words close together.

Return to the part that mattered.

Timestamped notes link back to the moment in the video. A short note such as “try this approach” becomes useful later because you can return to the explanation that prompted it, rather than searching through the whole recording.

Build your own explanation.

Use the markdown editor to turn observations into a note you can use: headings for topics, lists for steps, and code blocks for examples from a programming tutorial. You decide what to capture and how to describe it; the timestamps keep a route back to the source.

Keep learning beyond the video.

Your note remains a markdown file you can edit after watching. If you organize your learning in Obsidian, promote the note to your vault when you are ready. YouTube mode is part of Mote’s macOS app and is available in the three-day trial.

Try it with your own notes.

Mote runs on macOS 15 or later. Try the full app free for three days, with no account or card. $18.99 once at the early-bird price.
